The training programmeThe Diploma in Probation Studies combines a higher education undergraduate degree with a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Community Justice at level 4, and thus provides an academic, theoretical foundation alongside a rigorous assessment of practice. The training programme involves both academic work and practice experience. The degree is essentially a distance learning programme using specially prepared learning materials for each module. However, each module is introduced by a short academic block usually held in Leicester or Norwich (see map). The training programme includes:
The programme takes two years to complete. It is a rigorous programme that offers high quality training and development and produces effective practitioners. However, you should be aware that it is also intensive and demanding and will require a high degree of personal commitment. Practice Development Assessors The East of England covers a large geographical area and as such Trainee Probation Officers can expect to travel significant distances to attend some of the academic teaching and other training. Residential accommodation will be provided for those who have to travel long distances. Attendance at all training events is compulsory.
