BedfordshireBedfordshire is one of England's smallest counties in terms of land area, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with its attractive scenery and host of interesting attractions. Bedfordshire is a link between the South East of England, the Midlands and East Anglia, sharing borders with the counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. Being relatively close to London and with good road and rail connections, many of the more southern parts of Bedfordshire are becoming dormitory towns for commuters. Bedfordshire is a county of contrasts. Parts of South Bedfordshire are quite built-up urban areas, while other parts of the county, particularly the north, are much more rural. The county town of Bedfordshire is Bedford although the largest town in the county is Luton, which since 1997 has been a unitary authority. |
